Last night, I thought I'd post a humorous entry about "Murphy's Razor", defining it along the lines of "the worst possible explanation is usually correct." But first, I decided to do a Google search to see if anyone else had combined Murphy's Law and Occam's Razor before. Sure enough, 62 results were found. I'd been beaten to the punch...line.

It wasn't the first time that had happened. Last time it was the Mazel Tov Cocktail, which I envisioned to mean the act of congratulating someone for doing something evil in the eyes of others present.

That brings me to the Peak Humor Theory--the belief that there's a limited amount of humor in the world, and that beyond some point, the production of humor will continually decline. The decline will drive up the price of new humor unless we learn to recycle used humor more efficiently. Some believe that we reached Peak Humor in the late 1980s when Johnny Carson turned over the reigns of the Tonight Show to Jay Leno, and that we became acutely aware of the problem in late 2001. Say September.

A Google search for "Peak Humor Theory" returned no results.  But Murphy's Razor suggest that it's probably true.
