Medical insurance premiums are busted
by ZetaGecko | 1 Comment | Issues/Problems
I just got a letter from IHC notifying me of the following changes to my family's health insurance:
50% increase in family medical deductable
50% increase in family out of pocket maximum
60% increase in prescription deductable
166% increase in cost of non-participating emergency room treatment
400% increase in cost of participating emergency room treatment
And to top it all off: a 21% increase in our premium. If our premium didn't balloon every year, an adjustment would be understandable, but we also had a 12% increase last year, in addition to other increases we've had (we're already paying over double what we started off paying before we had our son).
Of course, if we wanted to switch insurers (if we can find someone with better rates), we'd have to deal with a year of reduced coverage for any pre-existing conditions. This is ridiculous.

It is unfortunate to hear so many lack health insurance. We really need to improve our health care system. Health insurance is a major aspect to many and we should help everyone get covered.
