A Number Puzzle For You Geniuses
by ZetaGecko | 3 Comments | Puzzles
Here's a little number puzzle that I dreamed up today for your geniuses out there. Explain this sequence of numbers:
2, 3, 5, 10, 17, 41, 100, 245, 765, 2502, 10453
I could have made it a little easier...but why spoil the fun! If anyone gets it, I'll be very impressed. (If it stumps you, send a link to this page to your favorite math whiz and see if they can solve it.)

Hmm, no guesses yet? Let's start with a simpler question: can you explain the first 3 numbers (even if your explanation fails to explain the rest?) How about the first 4 numbers?

Let me see if I can add to it, that should let you know I understand it:
28857. You are doing difference plus difference plus pattern.
Difference between 2, 3 is 1 Difference between 3 and 5 is 2, difference between 5 and 10 is 5, difference between 10 and 17 is 7, etc.

Curt,
At last, the first attempt in nearly 2 1/2 years!
It sounds like you're on the right track with ONE aspect of the puzzle. But 28857 isn't the next number.
