Wired News: FTC Would Kill the Messenger: "Home computer users who unwittingly send out spam e-mail should be disconnected from the internet until their machines are fixed, the Federal Trade Commission said on Tuesday."
Yeah! Let's hope that zombies used for purposes other than spamming are cleaned up at the same time!
"The FTC said internet providers should route all customer e-mail through their own servers, which could upset more technically proficient users who run their own e-mail servers."
I would hope that there would be some leeway here--as long as people aren't running open relays, which is probably the main concern, it shouldn't matter which SMTP server they're running through.
