The Old Boys in Blue are Busted

I appreciate the service the police offer to the community. But they're not perfect. Police officers who routinely disobey traffic regulations set a bad example and weaken their moral authority. There's also something of an Old Boys mentality in the law enforcement community. I've been told by a few people who are members of their county's search and rescue organizations that they've gotten out of speeding tickets when the officer who pulled them over learned that they were in search and rescue. They know this is going ot heppen, and make a point of letting the officer see their badge when they show them their license.
Does this make any sense at all? Why should those most closely affiated with those entrusted to enforce the law be least strictly held to the standards of the law? Do they not have the greater responsibility to uphold the law? To honor the law? To elevate it in the eyes of the public? Such abuses of power lessen my respect for our law enforcement organizations and make me more cynical about our ability to entrust anyone with power over our society.
The Old Boys in Blue should be busted when they break the law.
